We don't know what possesses a man (or woman) to cultivate a patch of hair between his (or her) lip and nose.
Is it to compensate for a real or imagined shortcoming? Is it a bid to convey masculinity or authority? Is it because the mustache man thinks no woman can resist a tuft of facial hair right above the mouth?
We have no idea. Maybe you should ask one of these guys.

There is quite an interesting number of Fu Manchu mustaches in this crowd.
