Emergency Motion Filed in Drew Peterson Murder Case — Update!

An emergency hearing in the Drew Peterson murder case has been set for late Friday afternoon.

An emergency motion to "limit electronic communication" was filed Wednesday in the Drew Peterson murder case and will be argued during a hearing Friday.

The motion was impounded and its contents are not available for the press or public to view.

Charles B. Pelkie, the spokesman for State's Attorney James Glasgow's office, declined to comment on the text of the motion but did say it pertains to procedural matters.

Peterson, a 58-year-old disgraced former Bolingbrook cop, faces charges he killed his third wife, Kathleen Savio. He is also the sole suspect in the investigation of the disappearance of his fourth wife, Stacy Peterson, but faces no criminal charges in that matter.

Drew Peterson's self-proclaimed "lead attorney," Joel Brodsky, had earlier speculated that electronic communication conducted by a juror might end up getting his client sprung on technicality.

"That would be ripe grounds for a mistrial, for throwing out a conviction or an acquittal, and we'd have to go through the process all over again," Brodsky said in a Wall Street Journal story.

Brodsky failed to return calls for comment Thursday.

Judge Edward Burmila will hear arguments on the motion at 4 p.m. on Friday.

Sounds like Brodsky is a mope. How many "capital" cases has he tried to a jury? Sounds like ZERO.

Ask him? Why does everyone think they are lawyers and know better ?

Well, well, well. I would think that your comment applies to you as well, Moreli.

JB - I believe it is a fact that Brodsky is not "capital" case qualified. That is why he had to take on additional defense-team members from the start. He will be in the background more than the foreground. That's okay, though, because I saw him in court the date he nodded off during the testimony of the defense's only expert witness. In the background for him is a good place to be.

Never said I was a lawyer, but I've seen prosecuting attorneys drop the ball or have no clue what they are doing as much as a defense attorney!

Not much different than Judges nodding off during trials!

1. This is not a "capital" case, so that's not relevant. IL no longer has the death penalty.

2. A "mope" is actually a derogatory term for a criminal defendant, NOT his attorney.

IMO, you can call Peterson or his lead attorney whatever you wish, or not. Brodsky did more than any attorney I've ever seen or heard of to make his client look and act like a stupid flunky. Dream dates, setting up a fight with a pretend fiance's ex-boyfriend, conjuring up a supposed engagement to a 23 year old, who admitted as much on national tv, using him to promote his personal liquor/food establishment, parading him around the networks, including Larry King, and on it goes. If there's a perception that either Peterson or Brodsky are mopes, don't blame anyone but the messengers. Bet most of the nation doesn't know who Craig Stebic is, even though he's from Illinois and has misplaced his wife, who was looking to divorce him. It is what it is.
