Frosty Tips Worth the Trip?
Frosty Tips is in Shorewood and for those who are fans, is a destination that cannot be missed.
Here is what I like about Frosty Tips. It brought me back to my childhood. Like the Dairy Queens or Tastee Freeze locations of days gone by, you get your ice cream at the window and your sit on a bench or in your car to eat your cone. If it is extremely hot outside, I imagine you and your cone are in a race to see if you can eat it before it completely melts away. Frosty Tips is a further blast from the past in that it only allows you to pay in cash.
It should, in some ways, come as no surprise that this business is a throwback. The current location opened in 1974, a full 30 years after the original location.
The ice cream was good. That was it for me. It was good. Granted, I covered my ice cream with cherry and marshmallow and crunch, but it was just good.
I remember when I first tried Minooka Creamery, I loved the frozen treat. Its flavor reminded me of the White Chocolate Mousse at TCBY. Then, when we landed a TCBY here in Shorewood, I was able to have White Chocolate Mousse. So those two destinations round off my top two picks for frozen treats. Frosty Tip is not number three. I did not like it that much.
I know there are residents who are going to disagree with me - who think that Frosty Tips has the best frozen treats in the area. Feel that way? Let us know in the comments. Or, click on this link and leave a comment on the business listing.

It's delicious ice cream, and it's nice to support the LOCAL little guy! It's a nice, simple old fashion place, and its great to have these kind of places still around!

I've always like it. Also like the Minooka Creamery and the newer Ivo's Creamery in Channahon. I agree with Dawn Walczak, it's nice to support the local businesses.

Hands down Frosty Tips is my favorite place to go. It's simple, but the owner has it right, and stands by his product. I agree our small businesses need our support! (not those chain ice cream places) So now we all need to go buy more ice cream!

I grew up on Frosty Tips and still love it. Once you know how the classic ice cream treats like turtle sundaes or Boston malts are supposed to taste, the chain store attempts are just disappointing.

Classic is right. Great ice cream not fancy flavors. A cone, float, slush, sundae and others done right with consistency. the focus being on the ice cream, just the way I like it.
