Channahon Police tell business owners to call 911 if faced faced with a similar scenario.
Channahon Police would like to alert the community to a man who is posing as a business inspector, but is leaving area businesses with cash.
"In the evening hours on May 16, a white male entered a couple of restaurants located in Channahon near Ridge Road and Route 6," police said in a written release. "The male claimed he worked for the health department and needed to set up rodent traps."
Police said the man is white, in his mid 50’s, around 5’7” in height and average build and weight with dark hair mixed with gray. The man was very dirty, wearing dirty blue jeans, a blue hat, and a blue coat. The male also had a very large nose.
"He tried this at two Channahon businesses yesterday evening," the release states. "One of the businesses is trying to get us a photo from their security system."
The police will release the photo as soon as it is available. The man became agitated when approached at the business.
"It was later discovered, the male took cash from a bank deposit bag located in one of the restaurants," a written release said.
"If this happens at another business, the business should call 911 and try to get a license plate number," police said. "Businesses should not allow anybody to inspect their business without verifying if they are legitimate."
