Minooka Girl Hit by Truck

Minooka Police said the juvenile was walking eastbound on McEvilly Road.

A female juvenile who lives in Minooka was airlifted to a Chicago children's hospital following a pedestrian versus vehicle accident Sunday night. According to Minooka Police, at about 6:48 p.m., police responded to the accident on McEvilly, just past Bell Road.

"The driver of a pick-up traveling westbound struck a pedestrian walking eastbound on McEvilly," Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer said.

Although the juvenile was initially taken to Provena Saint Joseph Medical Center in Joliet, she was later airlifted to Children's Memorial Hospital in Chicago. Her condition was not available.

Minooka Police are still investigating the accident. No charges have been filed.

Prayers for this girl, her family, and the communities of Channahon and Minooka; it's been an emotionally tough few days for these close-knit communities.

There should be a bike/walking path or sidewalk there. This is not the first time that someone has been injured near there due to having to walk on the road! Kids (and others) go up and down that hill all the time. It is a dangerous place for anyone that is not in a vehicle.

I agree, it's a no brainer that we need a bike/walking path from Lyon's Park to the river. My prayers are with this girl, her family, and the young man that was driving the truck.

The path should continue from Heritage Lakes on through RiverKnoll. Past the Dupage river and up through Lyons park. I have lived here 30 years and have seen an increase in these horrible accidents. I use this path to visit, ride and walk and it can be pretty intense out there especially when the traffice is heavier. I have tried to pull Minooka & Channahon together to solve this problem and nothing has been done.
We pray for these families. WE pray for our whole community at this time!

In response to above: I have lived her 10 years and totally agree.... especailly since the roads have been under "constuction" not widening just resurfacing! there werent even proper lines on the road and it's soo dark and narrow on Hill! , kids of all ages should be able to walk around our community..I have kids & relatives who have walked home from MCHS games before...I thank God nothing happened to them. I actually passed the kids on way to Fam.video that night (Sun.) but I & my driver saw them @ top of hill..further down it is dark and narrow so it is hard to see, I feel very bad for all ....

I have lived here for 20 years and have always said the same thing!! The city keeps spending money on parks where they should be spending money on the paths to get the kids around town safe!! the path needs to from lions park around the bend to Harritage. i hope it does not take a death of a child to have the city wake up!!!

My prayers go out to the little girl and her family for such a tragic accident. prayers also go out to the young man driving and his family during this unfortunate time. there should have been side walks put up 15 years ago since i have been there. there will continually be instances like this until it's done. maybe the village of minooka should read this and get a clue!!!!!!!! this again isnt the first time something like this has happened on this hill and it certainly wont be the LAST! wake up Village of Minooka!

Rumor has it the driver was a 16 year old without a license, driving alone, which is another offense, speeding 55 in a 35 zone. Sidewalks and paths may have noting to do with it. This kid could get charged with manslaughter if the girl dies. Not good.

Sam, like you said RUMOR has it. Until people know the facts they shouldn't judge.
I hope and pray for a full recovery for this young lady and it was a terrible accident but it was just that. The 16 year old boy did not leave his house that night knowing that his life was about to change forever and that the life of a young ladies was going to change too. Although the young boy does not have any physical injuries, I can assure you that he is feeling a tremendous amount of pain. He and his family should be in our prayers also.

If all these rumors were correct how could this little girl not be dead already getting hit at 55 mph? most people dont survive in vehicle accidents at that rate of speed let alone a pedistrian vs. a vehicle. I would say instead of pointing fingers in an incident like this we should all pray for a speedy recovery for the strong little girl and pray for the young man who was involved in a freak accident that could have happened to anyone becasue the area is unsafe and not well lit. My prayers go out to everyone involved to all the families and friends in the area that this is affecting. this is a horribel thing to happen!

It's NOT a rumor-- it's true... The boy didn't have a license and his mother let him go out and drive!! She's been arrested as well... What a horrific year it's been for Channahon/Minooka with all the accidents/deaths... I was behind the car where the mother and 2 children were hit by the Mack Truck last May-- thankfully, the children are ok, but the mother died in that accident.. how many deaths/injuries is it going to take for our city officials to wake up??

Although he was 16, and supposedly only on a permit, it is still not right to be so cruel. Im sure the boy and his family are going through enough, and are also feeling terrible as it is. They do not need these judgements, they know what happened, and is now the business of the families to deal with. Weather the mother was in the vehicle or not, accidents can happen to anyone, prayers go out to the young girl and boy. The accident with the semi truck has nothing to do with this, and happened at an intersection with a light. The main concern should be preventing accidents like this from happening. Putting safer walkways for pedestrians on such narrow roads.

@Kara-- AND the MACK truck WENT THRU the red light--- I was there-- you werent!!! My point is that there have been too many unnecessary injuries/deaths and people need to be more careful with WHATEVER type of vehicle they are driving!!!!
