Minooka Resident Asks Board Members to Help With Noisy Neighbor

The recycling plant behind Heather Ridge subdivision in Minooka is in violation of ordinances and will be back in court in three weeks.

Tom Zazzette moved into Minooka three and a half years ago. Since that time, a recycling center has moved in behind his home in Heather Ridge Subdivision.

"We've had nothing but problems with noise," he said. "It's a garbage dump back there."

Zazzette appeared before the Minooka Village Board members Tuesday night.

"I'm not the only one who can be complaining," Zazzette said. "There's dozens of residents that border that property."

First American Metal came into the village in June 2008 and the village has been battling problems since then.

"They are definitely in violation of our ordinance," Minooka Village Manager Dan Duffy said at the meeting.

In a later interview, Duffy specified that the company was in violation of at least 10 village ordinances.

Prior to coming to the meeting, Zazzette tried to buffer the issues on his own.

"I spent probably $1,300 on evergreens to screen my berm, because I did not want to look at the trucks back there," he said.

Minooka Village Attorney Marty Shanahan said First American Metal will be back in court in three weeks.

I worked for FAMC in 2008. From my 1st hand experience, they DO work in VERY suspicious (and in some cases, illegal) ways...

Good luck with your fight I live in Channahon and Conway freight is in my back yard and we get noise fron 4 a.m. to midnight and after calling they say it is just the price of doing business. in Channahon there is no ordinance for businesses , if Minooka can solve your problem tell them to let Channahon know how to fix it because our village sits on their hands all the time.
