Minooka School Board Kicks Off New School Year

Enrollment numbers, school events top agenda.

Here is what you missed at the Minooka Community High School Board of Education meeting Thursday night:

  • Superintendent James Colyott reported that preliminary numbers on the first day of school put the district's enrollment at 2,550. He said these numbers up slightly from last year's totals, but the official total won't be known until October.
  • Principal Robert Williams praised Athletic Director Bob Tyrell and the MCHS athletic boosters, who hosted the annual All Sports Coaches Cookout for athletes and their families last week. More than 1,000 guests attended to eat and kick off the fall sports season.
  • Community Relations Director Dave DiLorenzo announced that MCHS freshman Alex Caranyoff is collecting pop tabs to support Ronald McDonald House Charities. His pop tab drive will take place from 1 to 5 p.m. Oct. 15 at Lions Park.
  • Donations will be accepted before that date at in Minooka, in Channahon and at the and restaurants.
  • DiLorenzo also reported that MCHS has won the Southwest Prairie Conference All-Conference Trophy. The conference awards points to high school sports teams depending on how they place in conference competition and the total points are tallied at the end of the year.
  • will begin offering debit cards with the MCHS logo at its local branch. For every card ordered, the bank will donate $5 to the school.
  • U.S. Congressman Adam Kinzinger will host a town hall meeting at 10 a.m. Saturday in the South Campus cafeteria.
