More Than Pub Grub Makes The Office Worth a Visit

The Office Bar and Grill has unique menu offerings that are a pleasant surprise.

If you are a regular reader of this site you know there are certain culinary items that will send me running across county lines. , for example, now has me drive over to Chapin’s in Morris, since . I also have a soft spot for grilled calamari, which I think is only offered at in Joliet. And, cheese that is set on fire while you watch warms my heart. I have had saganaki at , but admit the portion was fairly small. This is not at all a problem at The Office. Wait, a bar and grill with saganaki? Yes, and their menu also lists pot roast tacos, a variety of wraps and a ribeye steak sandwich on garlic bread. But before I get into that, let me tell you about the cheese. I was disappointed that the restaurant, at 25520 S. Pheasant Lane in Channahon opts to set fire to the saganaki behind the scenes. But that is balanced by the fact that this helping of cheese was so large that I needed someone else to eat it with me. (Instead I took it home and had it for dinner).
The staff was more than happy to pair mine with tortilla chips instead of bread. So I happily sat with my plate-o-cheese and waited for my (un) sandwich to arrive.

I ordered the ribeye steak sandwich on garlic bread sans the garlic bread. So I got a good-sized piece of meat with fries alongside my cheese. Yum. The steak was done the way I ordered it - medium rare and was very good. And my meal, which came to just under $20 without a tip, was enough for two, maybe three meals.

The Office, despite its name, would not be somewhere I would recommend a lunch meeting. Not unless both people have the ability to pay attention amidst technological chaos. There are four big screen televisions above the bar and others scattered throughout the space. This is a bar and grill after all. But, they have the game show channel volume turned on. It confused me at first because I was expecting the television near me to have the sound up and was trying to figure out why Anderson Cooper was guessing how words connect.

This would be okay for lunch with a friend. The noise wasn't so overpowering that you could not carry on a conversation. But the multiple screens were distracting to me for the middle of the day. There were, however, at least five people at the bar at 2 p.m., so maybe they are coming for that kind of atmosphere.

I would return to The Office for lunch. I would love to try the Top Sirloin Salad. And I would share my saganaki next time. Maybe.
