Nose-Biter Police Blotter

Nomeli Cruz was found in Channahon Wednesday.

A man wanted for biting off part of another man's nose was apprehended in Channahon, the Joliet police said.

Nomeli Cruz, 39, of 719 Francis St. was picked up about 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bella Flowers and Greenhouses. He was arrested on a warrant charging him with aggravated battery and transported to the Will County jail.

The aggravated battery charge stemmed from an incident in 2010, said Joliet Police Chief Mike Trafton.

Cruz and another man were arguing over a woman, police said. Cruz apparently had heard enough and bit the man's nose, taking off part of it with his teeth.

Cruz admitted to the nose biting after his arrest, police said.

Crazy at the courthouse

A man bothering people at the Will County Courthouse was arrested after he just wouldn't stop, police said.

Melvin Caffey, 46, of 1020 E. Jackson St. was charged with trespassing after court security learned he was "intoxicated, panhandling and acting hostile toward citizens who were entering the courthouse," police said.

"Security staff instructed Caffey to leave the property and when he returned an hour and a half later he was arrested," police said.
