Skinny's Offers Food and History

The location in downtown Minooka has a history that the locals like to share.

I solved a mystery on Monday afternoon. Well, it was a mystery for me, but I am sure that for most of the residents of Channahon and Minooka, there was no mystery. Here is what I learned - Skinny's Sports Bar and Grill serves food. Yes, I did not know. I know it says grill in the name, but I wasn't sure. In fact, I suggested it as a location for Dining with Dawn with Minooka resident Sabrina Etheridge and when we arrived, we weren't sure that they served food. But, they do. And, it is more than just chicken wings and cheese sticks.

Etheridge and I decided on the sweet potato fries as an appetizer. They were very good. I opted for the chicken salad and Etheridge chose the Philly sandwich.

Both choices were pretty straightforward. The salad was good and the seasoning on the grilled chicken (you can chose grilled or crispy) made it good even without dressing. I had the leftover ranch from the sweet potato fries and the western French that I chose. Both were good.

Etheridge said her sandwich was good. It was moist and the meat was shredded, which made it even better. The sandwich came with plain fries as well.

The menu at Skinny's has appetizers, salads, homemade pizza, wings and sandwiches.

Owner Heidi Thompson took over two years ago. Prior to being Skinny's the location was called Schooner's Pub. Thompson named the bar and grill Skinny's because it is her husband's nickname. She said that customers come into the downstairs bar and grill and offer up the history of the building. Located on Mondamin in downtown Minooka, the building offers all kind of history. Thompson highlighted the fact that it used to be the American Legion.

In addition to the bar and grill located downstairs, Skinny's has a banquet hall upstairs that can accommodate 170 people.
