The thing I don't understand about some of these cases is this- and I am SO SO SYMPATHETIC to Stacy's family and all the other women as well. To Christine: People like DP is why we NEED the death penalty! Seriously you know, we can't just make one exception. You are either pro or con. I am not afraid to say that I believe in the death penalty for cases where there is "compelling evidence" (ie no doubt). Unfortunately, without a body, this case may not qualify. But if anything, use this case as fodder to think about if you want your tax dollars to pay for any person who takes a life from a family. Remember, not only has the victim lost their life, but moreover, multiple lives are negatively affected, all just by one selfish act. We need to make it simple and quick. I think they should die by lethal injection the very next day after the guilty verdict comes down. Again, only for those crimes which have unquestionable proof. No appeals in these either. Right now there is very little incentive to deter people from committing these crimes because they know if they get caught they can likely get out of it with a lawyer, get their sentence reduced and get out early. An innocent woman is dead and by giving light punishment, what does that say about us as a society? I'll tell you what it says;

What a strange observation. I don't think Peterson is trying to make people think he is 'nuts', and he's not facing death, he's facing 60 years in prison.

What was the point of that little dig at Stacy?

I actually think they did a good job telling the story in the movie. Nothing seemed really off-key to me. It seemed they really stuck with the real story. And in the ending they still never show what actually happened to Stacy. They just show Drew & his brother loading up the blue barrel into his SUV & driving off. But Nothing beyond that. It leaves everyone with confusion of where she would be, just as in reality. (I followed the whole real story from the start. My friend Nina is a friend of Stacy's deceased sister Tina, whom passed away from cancer. She really follows even more than I. Praying for closure. Praying they find her.

You cannot mentally alter someone or torture them within our justice system. Any confessions would be thrown out and the perp allowed to walk. All you can do is hope for some good, honest police work, finding evidence, a confession, or for the perp to slip up and commit a different crime so they're still behind bars, ala OJ Simpson, Joran Vandersloot, etc.

You said that you have to confess your sins to a priest, not just God to go to Heaven. It's doubtful that non-Catholics do this so you must believe that Heaven is only for Catholics.

Disciple-Drew does not have to confess to a priest. And confessing your sins is not how you get to Heaven. However, if he does admit that there is a God and Jesus Christ is His son who died on the cross for our sins and rose again, then yes, he can still get to Heaven. That is called mercy and grace. He will, however, still be held accountable for what he's done on this earth.

Joanna the only time a person/Catholic can have his sins absolved w/o going to a Priest is when the person is dying and there's no Priest available. We can pray and ask for forgiveness and repent for all our sins. Other wise one does have to go to confession and see a Priest to be forgiven for their sins.

I know you were probably really young (7) when you had your first confession, and a lot of the teaching probably 'went over your head'. People in the last 4 decades have underutilized confession, have been poorly catechized, and in many cases have been outright lied to. But since you're asking (Good for you! ), you are being given God's grace to get a good, definitive answer. So here is from the Catechism:

Christ is at work in each of the sacraments. Personal confession is thus the form most expressive of reconciliation with God and with the Church.

Disciple-yes, you confess your sins. To God. That IS the way it works. You confess your sins to God and ask Him for forgiveness. The way you are able to do that is through Jesus. No priest required! I don't need a priest to tell me that I'm forgiven, I already know I am. I don't need to confess to a priest for I confess directly to the One who forgives. I don't need to say ten Hail Mary's or any other saying, because He will tell me how to make things right and simply by confessing and praying and being sorrowful and humble, He will forgive me.

I find it disgusting that this Skb person isn't banned for her racist overtones of Middle Eastern people as all terrorist. Then I see people here wanting PLC banned. It isn't logical.
