The holidays can be stressful. There's gift buying, cooking, baking, decorating, etc. Your holiday may or may not include these. Then, there is the fact that we live in Illinois. Which means at some point, sooner or later, it will be terribly cold and rainy, snowy, icy, just overall unpleasant.
So, Patch writer Dulcinea Hawksworth hatched an idea. The 12 hats of Patch idea.
For the next 12 days - or until Dec. 25, we will feature a photo of someone from Patch (mostly yours truly) in a hat. In addition to writing for Patch, Hawksworth is an art director, business owner, artist, etc. She wears many hats. And she designs a full line of jewelry and accessories to accompany them too.
The idea was also shared in a conversation between me and another Patcher - Corey Minkanic. He often edits in a funky hat, as do I. When you work from home, you have to amuse yourself. When I used to work in a newsroom, I would be known to don a feather boa.
Coming up with this idea also gave us the opportunity to hand out gifts. Anyone who uploads a photo of themself in a hat will get a Patch prize. We have plastic water bottles and canvas bags.
So, enjoy our little light-hearted posts every day. Find some time for yourself during the holidays. And, no matter what you celebrate, the true meaning of any holiday is to be with the people you love.
