Lots to Do to Stay Warm and Occupied

Check out the local libraries and park district for cool events.

It's going to be cold outside for a while. The weather forecast doesn't show us hitting 50 degrees in the next week. I know, I know, it's February. Last weekend, instead of freezing outside, I headed to Aunt Nina's Sweets and Treats for the Sweets for the Sweet Art show. The show honored Thea DeLuna. I bought a couple crayon necklaces for the boys and indulged in the traditional Chicago mix of popcorn - that's caramel and cheese mixed together. That warms the soul.

If you're not a fan of the cold or not brave like the runners at the Frosty 5 Mile last weekend, all hope is not lost. There are upcoming local events to take your kids to that are indoors. And adults might enjoy it too.

Starting at 2 p.m., Feb. 18, grab a seat at the Three Rivers Public Library, Minooka Branch and catch a family-friendly movie - with snacks. You need to register for the event ahead of time.

Are you the mom of a son? The Channahon Park District has an event for you. On March 8, boys and their moms will have a dinner buffet, sundae bar and watch a treat of Dave DiNaso's Traveling World of Reptiles.

The 75 minute presentation will give kids and their moms a chance to pet a python, iguana, lizard and more. A professional photographer will be available with picture package options (check or cash only). All participants must pre-register.

I was at Aunt Nina's last Saturday too. Bought a cute braceletf or myself from Dulce. She has some really nice things. And Aunt Nina's is amazing! There is everything you want there: Ice cream, coffee, assorted chocolates, fudge, about 25 flavors of popcorn, buts, bulk candy, old fashioned candy and for the baker in the family, a whole wall dedicated to different colored and shaped sprinkles!
My girls were there for a birthday party. For two hours they received a lot. Pizza, a bubbling fountain of fruit punch, a cupcake and huge sugar cookie to decorate. They made pucker straws and receive a coupon to purchase candy with. The guests signed a T-shirt for the birthday girl and in return she made the guest cotton candy. And there was even time to open presents. Many parties today forgo that and the birthday child opens them at home. I'm glad that this was able to happen. The first time my daughter went to party at the roller rink she was very upset that there was not time for presents.
I would highly recommend going. ALlocate at least an hour to really look through the store and taste samples. And bring extra money!

We are not requiring registration for the family movie matinee on the 18th, we are just requesting it, so if anyone decides at the last minute that it sounds like a fun thing to do, they can still pack up the kids and come to the library for the free movie matinee, Disney's Cars!
