Never Get Bored with Visiting the Fire Department, Despite Having a Father who is a Firefighter

Sisters Abby and Maddy Holloway visit local fire departments in celebration of Fire Prevention Week

Our dad has been a firefighter for a little more than 20 years with the Bedford Park Fire Department. Whether it’s visiting him at his station or going to the or , the sights and sounds always have been fascinating to us.

This year we visited the . During the open house on Saturday, we saw a car excavation and a sprinkler system demonstration.

The car excavation was a demonstration on how firefighters get people out of the car that was in a crash. The sprinkler system demonstration showed how the sprinkler system can save your life and property by putting out a fire in less than a minute after it started.

Also at the open house, there was a free raffle for a carbon monoxide detector. Those can also save your lives.

One firefighter showed us the bunk room. That is where the firefighters sleep. They have comfy beds. Whenever we visit Dad at this fire department, we get to jump on the beds. But we didn’t do it here.

We finished the day with a complimentary, tasty hot dog and punch and a visit with Sparky the Dog.

The following day, we woke up early and went to the Minooka Fire Department for its pancake breakfast. It was very yummy. We had pancakes, sausage patties and links and scrambled eggs. We washed it down with a glass of milk. Mom had coffee.

We both entered a raffle for a toy fire trucks. Mom entered a raffle for a big basket full of fun fall decorations and food items.

After eating, we both had to pose for a picture with the fire engines. We never get enough of that. But best of all, we enjoy sitting in the fire trucks and pretending to go on a call.

As you can see, we never get bored with a visit to a fire department.
