The St. Baldrick's video will return tonight after a correction. Thanks for your patience.
I spent my Saturday night at Skateland Recreation Center in Channahon, helping to support a great cause. St. Baldrick's Day is a fundraiser, which began in 1999, when three Irish-Americans decided to turn their St. Patrick's Day party into a benefit for pediatric oncology research by shaving their heads. They thought the action showed support for children who were undergoing chemotherapy treatment and lost their hair. There is no St. Baldrick who has lived; the name is a play on the words bald and Patrick.
The Channahon event is always well attended. This year, Channahon Minooka Patch painted faces at the event. And, good thing for me, I was less in charge of drawing and more in charge of capturing the event on film. So, watch Channahon Minooka Patch in the coming days for photos from the event. I may even highlight some of the participants who were on hand to honor their loved ones.
As a side note, I heard there was an accident during the event. I did not see it happen as I was on the other side of the venue, but I hope the person injured is on the road to recovery.
