Get Out: Heat Wave Postpones Picnic, but Tractor Show is Going Strong

Have fun outdoors this weekend, give back indoors on Tuesday.

Residents in Minooka might have been looking forward to the planned community picnic, which was set for Saturday, but officials bet that because of the heat wave, turnout would be low. So, they decided to postpone it.

“It was a great call from (Village President) Pat Brennan, Laurie Musclow, Minooka Director of Parks and Recreation said. “It’s actually Oct. 2 and the reason that date is because Lion’s park is booked every Saturday and Sunday until then.”

The time of the picnic will remain the same – from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., but changing the date also changed the event from a Saturday to a Sunday.

Each of the villages four churches donate $150 each for the annual event. Volunteers from the United Methodist Church cook the food as well.

“It’s just really a nice community event,” Musclow said.
