1. Watch Local Kids in Theater

When: 7 p.m., Friday and Saturday (doors open at 6:30 p.m. with a jazz interlude until showtime

Why: Channahon Junior High Drama will be present "The Bachelor King. The show, which is written by Martin A. Follosae, is a spoof of several popular reality T.V. shows including The Bachelor, American Idol and Survivor.

2. Eat Gourmet Food Prepared by Local Chefs

When: 6 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. Reception, 7 p.m., dinner, Friday
Where: Joliet Junior College main campus, 1215 Hoboult Rd., Joliet
Why: Local culinary arts students prepare a multi-course meal, the proceeds of which support culinary arts scholarships. Visit the Web site for menu information.  Contact Dori at 815-280-2255 for tickets and info.

3. Watch a Movie for Free

When: 7 p.m., April 8

Why:
  Every month, the Three Rivers Library screens a movie for free. This month, women 18 and older can watch "Where the Heart is."

4. Bookies Book Club

When:  10 a.m., Saturday
Where: Minooka Village Hall
Why:
Every month, people gather at the Minooka Village Hall to discuss the chosen books. This month, the book club will be discussing "Moloka'i" by Alan Brennert and "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-time," by Mark Haddon.

5. Learn about the Mother Road

When: 1 p.m., Saturday
Where: Three Rivers Library, 109 N Wabena Ave., Minooka
Why: Award-winning author Dave Clark presents Route 66, Journey through History.
