Get Out: Sell, Buy and Bats

In Minooka you can make deals at Junk in the Trunk event, then learn about bats.

Got something to sell? Why not take advantage of the village of Minooka’s Junk in the Trunk event? For $3, you get two parking space areas – one for your car and one for your table of wares.

The event is from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday. The village will have additional Junk in the Trunk events Aug. 3 and Sept. 17. The event Saturday and the one Aug. 3 will take place in the parking spaces in front of Veterans’ Park on Mondamin Street. The event Sept. 17 will be in the Village Hall parking lot.

Registration is required and space is limited. Call 815-467-2151 to participate.

And, if you are heading out to shop, don’t forget to stop at the Farmers Market, which is across the street.

Go bats

Those who want to spend their time outdoors learning about nature can start learning about bats at neighboring Pilcher Park Nature Center, 2501 Highland Park Drive in Joliet. From 8 p.m. to 9:30 p.m., Saturday,Pilcher Park Nature Center will host Beer, Brats and Bats. This is an adult version of the park’s bat program.

Rob Mies, of Organization for Bat Conservation will be bringing a Malayan flying fox (the world's largest bat), some Rodriguez fruit bats and even a big and little brown bat.

Beer, wine and soft drinks will be available for purchase. You can even participate in a bags tournament for an additional $10 fee. Call the Nature Center at 815-741-7277.
