Great Escape: Grab a Good Book

The area libraries have a variety of ways that you can catch a good story - reading on paper, reading on electronic device and listening - and even the downloads are free.

Got a library card? Then you can borrow a book, download a book or an audio book, all without charge. And, for downloads, you don't even have to leave your home. Through Online Media of Northern Illinois, both Three Rivers Library and Shorewood-Troy Library give library cardholders the ability to download books and audiobooks to computers and electronic devices. The Omni Libraries site even specifies which books are compatible to which devices.

Don't have an electronic device on which to download books? Not to worry. If you are a Three Rivers Library cardholder, you can borrow one of theirs. The library has a Nook and a Sony Reader available for borrowing. Although the library anticipates making the devices more widely available in the future, they are limited to Three Rivers Cardholders for now.

And, right now you can even earn prizes for reading. The adult summer reading program for Shorewood-Troy Library is closed, but you can still register for the one at Three Rivers. For the first three books adults read, they have a choice of a jump drive or two tickets to Brookfield Zoo.
