Parts of Channahon, Minooka Without Power

Storms passed through overnight, knocking out electricity in the area.

Although the Minooka Village Hall and Channahon Village Hall had power Monday morning, there were parts of the towns that still lacked electricity.

Laurie Musclow, Minooka executive administrative assistant, said the village had not received any calls for power outages. Channahon also did not receive any calls from residents.

A map on ComEd's Web site said that between 3,001 and 10,000 customers in the Joliet area were without power.

The site did not specifically list Channahon or Minooka, but residents in Leland Hills subdivision in Channahon and Shady Oaks in Minooka were without power.

Channahon police had not received any calls about outages.

"That was a heck of a storm that rolled through here last night," Channahon Police Chief Joe Pena said.

A ComEd truck was working on power lines on Hoboult Road at around 11 a.m., but it was not clear if that was the source of the problem.

"We've had some storm damage in our southern region," said ComEd spokesman Bennie Currie. "As of seven this morning, we had 12,000 without power in our southern region. By 11 a.m. we were down to 4,900 in our southern region."

Joliet is part of the southern region.

Areas surrounding Channahon and Minooka were also reporting street closures due to flooding, including parts of Cass Street in Joliet.

This is not the first weather-related issue to face the towns. Last week a lightning strike in Plainfield affected WESCOM, which dispatches for the Channahon Police Department.

The non-emergency phone line for the Channahon Police Department was not working early last week but service was back up by the end of the week.

ComEd could not estimate how long it would be for the remaining 4,900 customers to regain power.
