State Police: Stay Off the Roads If You Can

With more nasty winter weather headed to the area Friday and Saturday, Illinois State Police are advising residents of Will, Kendall and Grundy counties to take precautions if they do head out on the roads — and to avoid unnecessary travel if they can.

"Hazardous road conditions are expected with the current and projected snow fall this afternoon into the evening hours tomorrow (Saturday)," Trooper DeAnn Falat said in a press release. "The possibility of heavy snow fall, high winds, whiteout conditions, and deteriorating road conditions are likely. Motorists are encouraged to allow for extra travel time in order to reach their destination safely."

Falat added, "Motorists are also reminded to bring a charged cell phone, car charger, food, water, warm clothing, and blankets should they become stranded for a long period of time. Our troopers and emergency crews will be working around the clock to divert tragedies and keep our motorists safe. Icy roadways and drifting snow conditions may disrupt travel; so we are asking that you do your part, drive at a safe speed, and wear your seat belts."
