Rialto Announces 'Idol' and 'Idol Junior' Finalists

Finalists from Joliet, Plainfield, Romeoville, Minooka and elsewhere will compete Aug. 2 and 3 for the title of "Rialto Idol."

The Rialto Square Theatre has announced the finalists for its Rialto Idol and Rialto Idol singing competitions.

The finalists, who auditioned June 22, will compete on Aug. 2 and 3 at the historic theater, 15 E. Van Buren St. in downtown Joliet, and tickets are on sale now.

The competition is divided into two Idol Junior categories (ages 6 to 12 and 13 to 16), while adults ages 17 and older are competing for the Rialto Idol title.

The Rialto Idol competition is set for 7 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 2; Idol Junior finalists will compete at 2 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 3.

Tickets are $15 per person or a four-pack for $50 for Rialto Idol. For Idol Junior, tickets are $10 per person or four for $30.

Tickets may be purchased at the Rialto Box office, located at 102 N. Chicago St., or ordered by calling 815-726-6600 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tickets are also available at 800-982-2787, through all Ticketmaster outlets or online at www.ticketmaster.com or www.rialtosquare.com.    

According to the Rialto, contestants will compete before a panel of local "celebrity" judges. Winners will get cash prizes and have the chance to perform as an opening act at the Rialto Square Theatre.

This is too funny. I was a "Rialto Idol" over 20 years ago when Troy Junior High Swing Choir sang there for a Christmas event. LOFL. Yeah, I was in Swing Choir. WHAT!??!!?!
