Channahon Dry Cleaner Only One in Area to Hand Press Clothing

Business also offers alternations and special cleaning with quick turn-around time.

Some things you just can’t wash on your own.

For example, that suit worn to the last three family weddings. A sequin gown worn to prom. The floor-length fur coat. The heavy comforter that just doesn’t fit in the washing machine, even though it’s a large capacity.

So for these items, and more, residents of and nearby communities can come to to get the job done right.

Located at 24735 W. Eames St., Suite 10, the family-owned business offers quick and affordable services. Sharon Evans, her children and nieces handle alterations, dry cleaning, ironing and leather cleaning just to name a few.

“We are the only cleaners around for miles that hand-press shirts,” said Evans. “I have customers as far as Dwight that bring their shirts to me.”

Evans said most cleaners use a buff press that sometimes makes the shirt not lay properly on the person when wore.

Cleaning Process

C &C Cleaners is a local business, but the cleaning does not take place on site. Items brought in for dry cleaning are taken to a warehouse in Joliet. They are brought back to the Channahon store for pressing, Evans said.

The dry cleaning process emits chemicals into the air. Therefore, village ordinance does not allow the process to take place at the store because it is too close to . The original location, which was near Pizza 4 U and on Eames St., was too close to , she said.

The turn around process is usually a couple days, sometimes longer if an item has a fur collar. That area needs to be cleaned by hand. But if the customer needs something quick, for a funeral, for example, Evans said she will tackle the emergency and make a happy customer.

Evans said she has owned the dry cleaning business for eight years. The store has been at the current location for five years.

Wedding gowns can also be cleaned at C & C, Evans said. After the cleaning, the dress will be pressed and preserved in a box as a keepsake. Large area rugs can also be brought in for cleaning, she said.

Evans said many people will try to clean an item on their own and realize they can’t.

“They come to us and ask us to fix it,” Evans said. “We try our best to correct the problem.”

Evans wants to remind customers that when they bring an item in for cleaning, to please inform the staff of a problem area. It will help decide what action needs to be taken in the cleaning process. She said also to remember to clean out the pockets of a jacket.

“We find some interesting things,” Evans said.

C & C Cleaners are the busiest during the holiday season and on Saturdays, Evans said.

Evans enjoys owning her business and sees only good things for the future.

“We (the family) all work together and everyone helps out,” Evans said. “It’s a business that will always be here. It will never fade away. You always need something professionally cleaned.”
