Local event planner ready to organize your holiday party

Consultations, holiday tips create wonderful parties and memories

used to work for a construction company. She would put together the training sessions and meetings. She was so talented that the human resources director of the company approached her and told her that she would make a good event planner.

With that compliment, Phillips pursued a Master’s degree from DePaul University. And before she knew it, she was the conference manager at the school, organizing various events.

“I like to make people happy,” Phillips said.

Phillips started her business; Events by Forte. For the past seven years, it has been successful in the Chicago area and surrounding suburbs. She is hoping that success will continue into the andareas.

“Most of my business is still in the city, but I’m slowly working my name into the suburbs letting people know what I offer,” Phillips said.

From now until December, Phillis will be offering weekly holiday tips as part of her blog on the Channahon-Minooka Patch. She will share tips on how to make trendy gifts, decorate holiday tables and share moments of joy with family and friends. on Oct. 3 highlighted a party checklist which included quick tips on making a celebration special and stress-free.

“I believe my business is very unique,” Phillips said. “I have the insight that makes it feel that the customer’s vision came across through the event.

"I have the elements to make the event unique and I have style to create a memory.”

Phillips said is willing to meet with her customers at their home or business, or a meeting place somewhere in between. She said she also conducts phone consultations.

“I’m mobile and I will go all over the place,” Phillips said.

Events

In May, Phillips worked with children as part of the “.” This program redefined the word “pretty” for girl; teaching young girls self-esteem building and both inner and outer beauty. 

The girls modeled clothes from local stores in Morris and were treated to cupcakes, Phillips said. One store that helped dress the models was

“I’m really looking forward to doing this again next year,” Phillips said. 

Phillips has many successful events, but she said that there were two that she considers her best work. 

She organized a function for Service Speaks in which she was able to work with students and community organizations.

“It was good to see almost 300 people volunteer in a common service,” Phillips said. “It was nice to see different options of service folks can do in the community.”

A 75-guest wedding in a Lincoln-Park restaurant was Phillips’ other favorite event. 

“Weddings can be sentimental and I’m not sentimental,” Phillips said.

But that wedding, Phillips was.

“The couple really appreciated what I did and I was honored,” Phillips said.

As for the future, Phillips said she wants to coordinate a corporate dinner award show.

“I love the element of surprise of those receiving an award,” said Phillips, adding that she loves hearing the conversations leading up to the award presentation. “It’s nice to see people dress up and treat themselves to a glass of champagne.”
