Style and Fashion Expertise Reflected in Local Salon-Boutique

Ellen Troutman started her hair salon out of her home 26 years ago. She had a steady clientele, however she wanted to do more.

Troutman loved fashion and was always looking for cute outfits for her and her girlfriends to wear. She found the clothing and would bring rolling racks of clothing to sell at home parties. 

Although she was successful in her salon and home parties, it became to stressful to juggle it with her personal life, which included her husband and two children. But, Troutman did not want to give up her career and passion. She had to make a fresh start.

opened it’s doors in July of 2003. The salon and boutique is housed in the 100-year old building located at 117 Mondamin St. in Minooka.

, the boutique offers stylish clothing and shoes appropriate for the season. High-quality jewelry to compliment any outfit is sold at inexpensive prices and makes . Seasonal items are also available for purchase.

On November 20, there will be open house at the salon from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. All items, excluding salon services, will be discounted 20 percent, Troutman said. Items also will be discounted on December 2 during the Christmas Walk. And, the store will be open on Christmas Eve.

Throughout the year, High Maintenance offers a “wish list” program. Customers, particularly ladies, can make a list of jewelry or clothing that they like. Troutman said the list is kept handy at the boutique for when a significant other comes in and needs a gift.

“This has worked very well in the past,” Troutman said. “The person comes in and we know how to help him or her. It eases the shopping experience.”

Troutman said customers can call ahead to say they need an age-appropriate gift. Staff will pull selected items and have them waiting upon the customer’s arrival. Once the decision is made, Troutman said the merchandise will be gift wrapped and ready to go.

And if customers still can’t seem to find the perfect gift, Troutman said gift certificates are available for merchandise and salon services.
