Despite Heavy Rains, Crowds Turn Out to Three Rivers Festival
Channahon-Minooka Patch's only Vanessa Holloway braved the pie eating contest at the festival.
Heavy rains did not scare away people from attending the Three Rivers Festival on Saturday.
After the downpour, the rides continued to thrill all ages. People strolled the craft tent finding home decor, purses and food items, including dip mixes, wines and chocolates.
Local Girl Scout troops set up craft tents where children could paint stepping stones, sun catchers, make a spin art and get their face painted with their favorite design.

Miller’s Petting Zoo allowed visitors to feed and pet goats, llamas, chickens, ducks and a donkey.
Amidst all this fun chaos were a couple bakery-themed events. The returning attraction was the annual pie eating contest. It was a messy success. Enjoi Bakery of Channahon provided miniature chocolate silk pies. Each contestant had to eat the entire pie with their hands behind their backs.

I had the pleasure of joining in the fun. The chocolate filling I was able to slurp up quickly, however the challenging part was eating the crust. Unfortunately I did not win, but I had fun.
A new culinary attraction this year was a cupcake contest.
Categories were the best decorated, best tasting and the best decorated using the anniversary theme.
This year the Village of Channahon turns 50; the Channahon Park District turns 40 and the Three Rivers Public Library will be 35.
Adults 18 and over and children 13-17 were awarded prizes for the best in each category. Contestants 12 and under all received a certificate and were entered into a raffle for a chance to win cake decorating items.
Judges were given an assortment of cupcakes to taste and the remainder were displayed and shared with contestants, their families and lucky by passers of the contest.
