Past Life Regression?

Local Editor attends a presentation, but leaves you to make your own call.

It’s been a number of months since I have written my column on Patch. Those of you who have been around for a while either really missed it or were relieved -  could go either way. But those of you new to Patch might be thrown off because you have never seen it before.

As it says in the description below the column, Behind the Wheel is intended to give you guys a picture of things that happen both inside and outside the villages’ “walls” and to let you know when I get to go to a cool event or place that I think is worth getting in your car and making the drive.

In the past, I have written a number of columns about places to take the kids. I am a big fan of places like and . And, there have been a time or two that to some fun event I wanted to share. The latter was the case on this occasion.

A couple weeks ago, I headed out to the to hear Linda Herrick speak on Past Life Regression.

I met Herrick a number of years ago when I did a story on Reiki. Herrick is a Reiki Master/Teacher as well as having a lot of other healing modalities she pulls out of her toolbox. I have since undergone and done a story on her past life regression. And, I must have been more of a skeptic than I thought because she referenced my skepticism in her presentation, even as I remained nameless.

Since that first story, Herrick and I have become friends and I see her once in a while when I need a Reiki recharge. The Past Life Regression presentation was just for fun, but I did, indeed learn a thing or two.

One of Herrick’s talents is making seemingly complex concepts easy. She explains the state you are in when hypnotized (which is how a past life regression starts) in concrete terms. She said we find ourselves in a hypnotized state many times in a given day – when we lose ourselves in a good book, for example. Or, when we get to a destination in a car and are unsure exactly how we got there – these are all natural states of hypnosis. But being in that state does not mean we are oblivious to the world around us.

“If you’re totally focused on a movie, and if someone comes downstairs and makes a sandwich in your kitchen, you know they are making a sandwich in your kitchen, you just don’t care,” she said.

But, if someone broke into your house and started stealing things, you would notice and turn away from the movie. She calls hypnosis ‘focused concentration.’

Although the Past Life Regression presentation is over, Herrick will be giving another presentation, this time on Auras at 7 p.m., Feb. 21 at the Plainfield Library. I am likely to head out to that one too.
