The Eagles Make it a Night of Comebacks

The FOFCA Screaming Eagles may have won all three games last night against visiting Westlake Christian (Grayslake), but none of them were easy.

The Lady Eagles started slowly again and struggled for much of this one to find their shooting touch. For the second straight game the Lady Eagles struggled getting the ball to fall, shooting only 11% for the game from the field.

But, fierce heart and determination helped fuel a rally for the win. The Eagles trailed 16-12 at halftime and 20-16 at the end of three and were even down 6 early in the fourth quarter.

Senior forward Alli Willis hit a three and totaled 9 of her team high 16 points in the fourth quarter to fuel the rally. Willis had provided the Eagles with a 25-22 lead before having to leave the game due to injury. The Eagles hung on for the final 2 minutes for the 27-24 win.

The varsity boys couldn't handle the early prosperity. The Eagles led 27-10 at halftime fueled by Cody Blan's 12 first half points, many on layups following steals or early release from defense.

But the Eagles couldn't hold the lead being outscored 19-4 in the third quarter and eventually surrendering the lead and falling behind by 3 early in the fourth.

Then the Blan boys took over. Josiah and Cody Blan combined for all 21 fourth quarter points the Eagles scored to lead them to the 52-47 win.

The Eagle junior high boys had started the night off with a furious fourth quarter rally of their own. Down 10 early in the fourth, the Eagles rallied behind the fourth quarter scoring of Caleb Blan (7 pts), Luke Dierlam (5 pts) and Aaron Bestler (2 pts). Dierlam hit both ends of a 1 and 1 with seconds remaining to lift the Eagles to a 28-26 win.

The Eagles travel to Kankakee on Monday to square off with Grace Christian in their opening South Shore Christian Conference tilt. The Eagles are aiming for their first SSCC West Division title and that road begins in a place that has been a tough place for them historically.

The Eagles don't return home until December 17 when they host Southside Baptist from Oak Lawn.
