Channahon, Troy FD Serving As Drop-off Point for Aid to Tornado Victims (Update)

At least five people are dead and 37 were injured Sunday as tornadoes tore through central Illinois.

Now, Plainfield — no stranger to the devastation a tornado can bring — is lending a hand. Plainfield firefighter Adam Slick has launched a donation drive to benefit tornado victims in Washington, Illinois, and Coal City.

Slick is collecting water, Gatorade, non-perishable goods and gift cards to help those affected by the deadly storms. Cleaning supplies such as gloves, garbage bags and toiletries are also being accepted, but clothing is not being collected at this time.

Donations can be dropped off between 6 a.m. and 10 p.m. Monday at Plainfield Fire Station #1, 14415 S. Coil Plus Dr. (at 143rd Street and Van Dyke Road).

Donations are also being accepted at:

• Troy Fire Station 1,  700 Cottage St., Shorewood
• Oswego Fire Station 1, 3511 Woolley Rd., Oswego
• Channahon Station 2, 23351 McClintock Rd., Channahon

"I'm going to take it down to Coal City first and see if it is needed," Slick said. "If not, it sounds like Washington got the worst of it and I will take it down there." Slick said he plans to leave at 7 a.m. Tuesday.
