Calling All Volunteers: Minooka Flood Clean-Up is Saturday

The Minooka police department has teamed with the Minooka fire district to organize a clean-up effort Saturday (April 27).

In response to recent flooding, the Minooka Police and Emergency Management Agency and the Minooka Fire District have teamed to organize a community clean-up program.

The program will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday (April 27), according to a news released issued jointly by Minooka police chief Justin Meyer and Minooka Fire District chief Al Yancey.

The two men said volunteers from Minooka Bible Church, The Village Christian Church and local residents will be in the area of Shady Oaks Road/Mobile Home Park and Tabler Road to assist in the recovery effort.

Meyer and Yancey said volunteers will remove debris from your property to the street edge and provided dumpsters. Volunteers will be equipped with shovels, garbage bags, gloves, etc., to assist you with your removal needs.

  • Local churches will begin clothing distribution as soon as tonight (April 24, 2013). Contact Minooka Bible and The Village Christian Church for additional information regarding the clothing distribution.
  • Disaster recovery kits (shovels, gloves, garbage bags, bucket, cleaning chemicals, tarps, etc.) are now available for pickup at the Minooka Fire Station on Minooka Road.
  • If you do not have an "initial damage assessment form" and need one, you can pick them up from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Minooka Police Department, 121 E. McEvilly Road. These forms must be completed and returned to the Minooka Police Department by noon Monday, April 29, 2013.
  • Small grants to assist with rent, food, clothing and other necessities are available online through Community Foundation of Grundy County (www.cfgrundycounty.com) or call "We Care" at 815-942-6389.
