Nick Offerman Returns to Minooka, Promotes New Book

The "Parks and Recreation" star returned home to promote his new book, "Paddle Your Own Canoe."

"I grew up literally in the middle of a cornfield in the village of Minooka, Illinois, where I spent a lot of time learning to use intoxicants, chasing girls, and screwing around in the woods..."

And so begins the world's introduction to Minooka, the hometown of actor and comedian Nick Offerman, in his newest book, Paddle Your Own Canoe: One Man's Fundamentals for Delicious Living.

I saw Offerman speak and perform at the Music Box Theatre a few weeks ago in Chicago, but he recently came back home to Minooka Elementary School. (You can read about his visit home in the Morris Daily Herald.) It sounds like he did a lot of the same at both shows—sang some songs, read some excerpts from the book and signed copies after.
The excerpts and stories he told focused on Minooka, talking about his expert breakdancing skills and wandering the farm as a child.
In the Daily Herald article, Nick's father, Rick, said, “Nick’s family or those who know him are scratching their heads thinking, ‘He really wrote a book.'"

Well he did, and it's a damn good read. Offerman's voice really carries through, the stories are funny and insightful, and you'll appreciate the local references sprinkled throughout.
