Services Set for Terry Marketti

The Grundy County Sheriff passed away suddenly on Dec. 14

Funeral services have been set for Terry Marketti, 56, of Gardner.

Visitation will be from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m., Dec. 17,  at the St. Lawrence Catholic Church, 165 East Rice Road, in South Wilmington. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in his name to any Grundy County Organization Terry was associated with would be appreciated. A list of the organizations are found on the bottom of this post.

Beginning at 10 a.m., Dec. 18, a funeral mass will take place at  St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington, with Rev. John Hornicak officiating. Interment Braceville-Gardner Cemetery, Braceville, IL.

Marketti was born July 26, 1956 in Joliet, IL to the late Charles C. and Matilda “Tillie” (nee Batusich) Marketti, Sr. Terry had been the Grundy County Sheriff since 2004, when he took over after Sheriff Jim Olson’s death. He had been a member of the sheriff’s department for 34 years, dedicating his life to serving the communities of Grundy County.

His first elected position was when he was 18 years old on the South Wilmington Village Board, which he served on for 22 years.

Terry owned and operated Marketti’s Shell in Gardner. He had a generous soul and was known to donate to many local charities, non-profit organizations, as well as many individuals. Terry was a very devoted son, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, great uncle, and friend. Surviving are his brother, Rick (Donna) Marketti of Gardner; niece, Betsy (Bryan) Hennessy of Gardner and their children, Emma and Claire Hennessy; nephew, Blake Marketti of South Wilmington, IL; sister-in-law, Jacke (the late “Cookie”) Marketti of Green Valley, AZ; sister-in-law, Vivian (Dale) Bloom of Crest Hill, IL and their children, Brian Marketti and Eric Marketti & family, both of Joliet. Preceding him in death were his parents; and brother, Charles “Cookie” Marketti on October 12, 2002.

He was a past member of the Gardner Fire Protection District Board and continued to be an adviser. He was also a member of the St. Lawrence Catholic Church in South Wilmington, IL.
