2 Airlifted to Hospitals After Afternoon Crash in Minooka

Lifestar and helicopter from Superior on the scene at Route 52 and Arbeiter Road.

Two unidentified people were airlifted to area hospitals Monday afternoon following a two-car crash in Minooka at Route 52 and Arbeiter Road.

"Both vehicles required extrication," said a representative from Minooka Fire Protection District.

Lifestar received a call for the transport at around 11 a.m.

"We did indeed transport one patient, said Scott Hagemann, business development manager for Lifestar. "The patient was flown to Advocated Good Samaritan Hospital."

The second patient was flown by a second helicopter from Superior to an area hospital but it was not known which one.

Hagemann could not comment on the condition of the patient, but he did say generally what conditions were present when a Lifestar helicoptor is needed.

"There's a criteria that the fire department works off of dealing with mechanism of injuries, multiple long bone fractures and altered mental status or signs of shock," he said.

The patient was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital because it is the closest Level I trauma center in the area

The accident was being handled by Illinois State Police District 5, although Kendall County Sheriff's Police helped at the scene. State Police were not immediately available for comment.

Troy Fire Protection District and Oswego Fire Protection District assisted in the aftermath of the crash.
