4 People Injured in 3 Car Crash on Interstate 55 in Wilmington

Three cars collided at 3:15 p.m. Saturday afternoon on northbound Interstate 55, near mile marker 242. The area is just north of River Road, according to Illinois State Police. 

A dispatcher with state police said three people were taken to area hospitals, all by ambulance. 

"They weren’t major injuries at all," Cynthia Tucker, a dispatcher with Illinois State Police said.

By 5:15 p.m., ISP had cleared the scene.

Construction is taking place on the Des Plaines River bridge at Interstate 55, which is causing significant traffic delays. The work is supposed to last for three months. On July 10, an accident on northbound I55 at Bluff took place.
