Bomb Threat in Minooka Proves to be Unfounded: Police

Minooka police were part of an emergency response team called to the scene of a bomb threat on Thursday morning in the Pilot gas station parking lot at I-80 and Ridge Road.

Minooka police and Illinois State Police were called to the scene of a bomb threat early Thursday morning in Minooka—a threat that eventually proved to be unfounded.

Minooka police chief Justin Meyer said officers were called to the Pilot Travel Center parking lot the intersection of Interstate-80 and Ridge Road a few minutes before 6:30 a.m. on Thursday. He said there was a woman on a charter bus who made threats of a bomb going off.

Sgt. Scott Angus of the Illinois State Police District 5 office said the woman "was later found to be mentally unstable."

He said officers removed her from the bus and took her to a nearby hospital.

"As a precautionary measure, a bomb-sniffing K-9 unit was brought to the location," Angus said. "The K-9 search resulted in negative results."

No bomb.

Meyer said police crews worked for about one hour at the scene before sorting out the details and allowing passengers to re-board the eastbound bus. Angus said charges in the case are pending. The bomb-sniffing unit was part of the Kane County Sheriff's Office bomb squad, Meyer said.

Angus said he did not have the name of the woman who issued the bomb threat.

"The bus driver pulled over and called police," Angus said. "It was pretty smart of him. He did the right thing."
