Charges Filed in Coal City Crash; One Victim Remains Hospitalized

Coal City Streets and Alleys Supervisor Darrell L. Olson, 44, suffered traumatic injuries to his lower extremities following the weekend crash in Coal City. Olson was airlifted to Advocate Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove where he is still receiving treatment at this time.

The additional village of Coal City employees were treated and released at Morris Hospital. 

Thomas C. Brown, 42 of Coal City was the driver of the vehicle that hit the truck with the workers. He has been charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident. Brown was taken to Morris Hospital, where he refused treatment. He was then taken to the Coal City Police Department, posted bond and was released.

A story in the Morris Daily Herald quoted Coal City Mayor Neal Nelson.

"The village of Coal City maintenance crew is really the backbone of our community," he said in the MDH story. "We are just asking everyone to keep those who are injured in your thoughts and prayers."

This accident is still under investigation and more details will be released as they become available.
