Death of Morris 3-Year-Old Under Investigation
Lizzy Matney was pronounced dead on Friday afternoon after she was found in her back yard—entangled with a rope on a swing set.
Grundy County Coroner John W. Callahan and the Morris Police reported Monday that they are investigating the death of a 3-year-old Morris girl who was pronounced dead Friday afternoon.
Through a written release, Callahan said the child, Elizabeth (Lizzy) G. Matney was brought to the Morris Hospital just before 1 p.m., May 31, by Morris EMS.
Lizzy Matney was pronounced dead at 3:30 p.m.
Lizzy Matney is the daughter of Mark and Stephanie (Dani) Matney.
"Preliminary investigation indicates the parents and their 3 children were home, all in the house," Callahan said in a written release. "At some point, it appears 3 year old Lizzy made her way out the back door. In a very short time, Dani (mom) noticed Liz was not in the house and ran to the back yard where she found her daughter entangled with a rope on a swing set."
Callahan said the 3-year-old was unresponsive and the mom started CPR while EMS was called.
“This is such a tragic incident of a child making her way out of her parents' sight in such a very short time, with a tragic ending,” Callahan said in a written release.
