Former Joliet Grade School Principal Gets Probation For Friend Forgery

The former principal of Laraway Elementary School committed forgery to get her convict friend a job.

The former principal of Laraway Elementary School got probation for forging a criminal history so a friend with a record could get a job at her school.

Tashona Marshall, 32, of Chicago also took a 180 day sentence that was put off until the completion of her two-year probation. If she abides by the terms of her probation, Marshall likely won't have to do the time.

Marshall was hit with a $15,000 fine as well.

Marshall was arrested in April after the superintendent at her school district discovered she forged the criminal history of a friend looking for a job. The friend, Lashone White, 37, was hired on to the district's "food and nutrition team" in late 2011, according to a district newsletter.

But White had been convicted of second degree assault in connection with the death of a man outside a Long Island, NY, strip club in 2005, according to the book Headless Man in Topless Bar, a study of strip club-related homicides. White had done seven years in prison and was still on parole.

Marshall "knew his history would show he is on parole, so instead of sending his fingerprints to the Bureau of Identification for a background check, she used her own fingerprints and presented them to the school as his," according to a story in the Joliet Herald-News.

"This is someone who would not have been hired had his background been presented accurately," said Charles B. Pelkie, the spokesman for the Will County State's Attorney's Office.

I bet she's sorry... she got caught. How about child-endangerment charges? She was placed in a position of public trust. She committed fraud. So many other charges, why is she getting-off with a fine and a promise to behave ? Why do crimes that occur by governmental employees always get such light sentences?

Laraway is a pit. A public school that is forced to wear uniforms because of gang problems, bribes their students with "hot chips" (Flaming Hot Cheetos) for decent behavior, and takes field trips every quarter to those kids who can act human enough to sit in a classroom. It doesn't surprise me that they hired this woman as a principal since they know parents won't even know what's going on that school. And "Nutrition Team"? They only have one because all of their students are on free or reduced lunch because their parents cannot take care of them, yet they allow the teachers to bribe the kids with "hot chips." Makes total sense.
