Icy Roads Make for Busy Morning for Illinois State Police

The Illinois State Police are cautioning drivers to slow down.

Illinois State Police are reporting at least 40 accidents on Chicago area roads Saturday.

A spokesman at the ISP District 5 headquarters in Joliet said no fatalities have been reported, but snowy and blowing conditions have iced over many local roads.

"We're just getting hammered right now with the amount of calls for accidents," the spokesman said. "The roads are just icing up."

At the Grundy County Chamber of Commerce Home and Health Expo in Morris, which ran from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., attendees were reporting heavier than normal traffic on Interstate 80 because of scattered accidents.

The National Weather Service is forecasting scattered flurries through mid-afternoon Saturday with temperatures remaining in the teens with winds at about 10 mph.
