Man Airlifted to Hospital Following Channahon Accident

Illinois State Police are not identifying the man, pending notification of his family.

A 41-year-old Morris man was airlifted to Good Samaritan Hospital in Downers Grove Thursday afternoon, following an accident in Channahon.

Illinois State Police said the call came in at about 3:52 p.m. An over-sized load vehicle was headed north on Frontage Road from Bluff Road. The truck was going to Aamoco Road. When over-sized vehicles go around turns there is a protocol that the vehicle needs a ground guide.

"A driver gets out and steers the back end, Illinois State Police Sgt. Chris Raluch said.

The guide was using a remote to steer the back of the truck.

"He was walking alongside the vehicle, he tripped and the vehicle ran him over."

The man was dragged between 100 and 250 feet.

"The driver (of the over-sized vehicle) was moving the vehicle at walking speed and didn't know what had happened,"Raluch said. "Someone passing by heard the guy yelling and ran up to the truck and told him to stop."

Illinois State Police are describing the injuries as severe, but say it was not a fatality.

The accident shut down Frontage Road between Bluff Road and just south of Aamoco Road. Traffic on Route 6 westbound, east of Interstate 55 was backed up to the railroad tracks just west of Carrie. It was unknown if the backup was due to the accident or a result of traffic delays on Interstate 80 and Interstate 55.
