Man Injured Rescuing Dog from Morris Fire That Destroyed a House

A home in the 800 block of Pine Bluff Road in Morris was a total loss in a fire early Saturday morning that injured a rescuer. The neighbor to the house knew that there was a pet inside and went in to rescue a dog. He was injured in the process.

"He was treated at Morris Hospital and released," Morris Fire Protection and Ambulance District Chief Tracey Steffes said.

The dog is believed to be fine.

The call to fire agencies went out around 2:45 a.m., but multiple agencies remained on scene Saturday afternoon, still investigating the cause of the fire. By noon on Saturday, Illinois State Police, the Illinois State Fire Marshall's Office, Grundy County Sheriff's Police and MABAS 15 fire investigators were still on scene. Steffes said investigators did not yet know if the cause of the blaze was suspicious.

"I have no comment right now; they are still in the middle of the investigation," he said.

Investigators have estimated the damage to the house and contents at $300,000, which is a total loss.

"I'm not releasing any names of the people that owned the house," Steffes said.
