Man Lied about Age to Lure Underage Girl for Sex, Police Say

Roberto Gonzalez, 21, told his 15-year-old victim on Facebook that he was 17, Joliet police said.

A man who lied about his age in order to lure a 15-year-old girl into a sexual encounter was arrested Thursday on a charge of criminal sexual abuse, Joliet police said.

Roberto H. Gonzalez, 21, 408 Henderson, Joliet, began an online Facebook relationship with the girl, also from Joliet, during which he told her he was 17, Lt. Brian DuPuis said.

The pair agreed to meet in person around Christmas, and Gonzalez took the girl to his home so that they could have sex, Dupuis said.

The victim's mother notified police after Facebook messages were brought to her attention, and Gonzalez was arrested at about 4:45 p.m. at 2727 W. Jefferson St.

Gonzalez is being held in the Will County jail in lieu of $50,000 bond.
