Man with Gun Taken into Custody at Channahon Shopping Mall on Route 6

Police have not released the details of the incident, which began after someone spotted the suspect at Chicago Pizza and Catering and led to a lock down of the area.

A man who was spotted at a local restaurant with a gun has been taken into custody after Channahon police encircled his pickup truck in the parking lot of the Mallard Point strip shopping mall.

It's not clear if the man, whose identity has not been released, made any sort of threat but a report in the Morris Daily Herald said police received a call at about 5 p.m. after the suspect was seen at the Chicago Pizza and Catering restaurant on Route 6 with the weapon. It was also observed that he had parked sideways in a parking place.

Morris police immediately cleared the parking lot, and directed people in the strip mall across the street to stay inside, Sgt. Shane Casey said.

"We locked everybody down as a safety precaution while we secured the scene because we didn't know what we had," Casey said. "All we knew (at the time) was somebody said there was a man with a gun."

The Grundy County State's Attorney's office is expected to file charges tonight or tomorrow, he said.
