UPDATE: Minooka Community High School Teacher Charged with DUI

Woman's blood-alcohol level was more than twice the legal limit, according to Will County Court documents.

A teacher was charged last week with driving under the influence.

Carrie M. Prosek, 37, of the 1300 block of Phoenix Lane in Joliet, was arrested around 2 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 18 by police and charged with DUI, illegal parking and operating an uninsured motor vehicle, all misdemeanors, according to the Will County Jail log.

According to Will County Court documents obtained by Channahon-Minooka Patch, Carrie Prosek’s blood-alcohol level registered at .229 at the time of her arrest. A blood-alcohol level of .08 is considered intoxicated in the state of Illinois.

The court documents also said Prosek was "passed out in driver's seat, (had a) strong odor of alcoholic beverage on breath, red eyes, poor balance, and failed (a) field sobriety test."

The documents do not say where the car was parked, but the Will County Sheriff's Office reported she was arrested at the intersection of North Chicago and Columbia streets in Joliet. The documents also do not specify whether the keys were in the car at the time of her arrest. Prosek is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 25.

Prosek is listed as a member of the physical education, health and driver's education department on Minooka Community High School's website.

Minooka Community High School District 111 Director of Community Relations Dave DiLorenzo declined to comment on the charges Thursday. Additional attempts to reach the school were unsuccessful.

Nancy's comment you replied to states it clearly in there
Patrick Worrall September 29, 2011 at 04:07 PM
Wow Carl, really?!?!? She asked if anyone INTERVIEWED her. Not if anyone knows her and has gotten her side of the story.
Carl September 29, 2011 at 04:18 PM
I'm still trying to understand why personal statements were needed to express frustration over the article. I appreciate that the tables are being turned on me as emotionally threads tend to lead toward irrational thoughts. But I never made personal statements. I've only defended against accusations. To that point, my 1st and original statement was not geared toward defending Patch (or Dawn) as others elude to. I attempted to explain that Ms Prosek and Patch are in situations based on sociological factors. They (both) have their reasoning for making their choices (writing the story or getting in the car intoxicated). We as a society need to not pass hasty opinions without understanding all the facts and information. All the provided web links and info toward journalism and on DUIs does not mean that all facts were gathered. This information was supplied based on what everyone believes to happen on both sides of the table.
Carl September 29, 2011 at 04:31 PM
"Small town" mentality sociologically speaking is at a higher risk for it. If the Chicago news covered this, the interpretation of the story would be different even if accurate information or not was supplied. My original statement began to take it's own journey, the story became it's own "story" and Ms Prosek was involved in all kinds of acts before it was done. It's personal responsibility here. We as a society can allow the media to be the "truth" or paint pictures. Or we can take it as another story communicated to society. We (society) can make Ms Prosek to be a bad person from this article or just support her. It's in our control more than we think. Placing blame on news articles or Ms Prosek isn't. I am not faulting either...open questions about this article or not. I can't explain the actions or intent of others (the article, people's comments, Ms Prosek). I can only attempt to interpret it which can lead to possible misunderstandings especially in a technological world. If we believe everything we read, see or hear in such a hasty manner, we are not doing ourselves justice. Mistakes are made, people are people and we need to find more compassion / tolerance in our society.
Carl September 29, 2011 at 04:38 PM
Well, I guess only Nancy can elaborate since the reference (that you missed) toward parents & teachers gossiping has no connection to speaking to her directly.
Carl September 29, 2011 at 04:39 PM
Oooo, another conspiracy. Just reinforced my stance. I appreciate it.
Patrick Worrall September 29, 2011 at 04:43 PM
....................wow (@ Grant)
Patrick Worrall September 29, 2011 at 04:45 PM
Carl, I think you should have informed everyone of this prior to making any comments. :-D
Carl September 29, 2011 at 05:33 PM
You're right, Patrick :-) ...and thanks
Pam September 29, 2011 at 06:23 PM
look at this statistic and maybe you can see why teachers should hold higher standards. no teacher in charge of childred should ever have a blood alcohol level of .229. this indicates that there is a problem. Teen alcohol use kills about 6000 people each year, more than all illegal drugs combined. (Hingson and Kenkel, 2003) Full cite: Hingson, Ralph and D. Give Dawn a break, it only took her 7 years to get her 'journalism' degree at NIU. Eventually the things they tried to teach her about ethics will sink in, maybe.
hannah September 29, 2011 at 10:18 PM
this paper needs to hire some new people for reporting or for doing the research at least. me and my friends googled a bunch of teachers names last nite and were freakin amazed at what we discovered! one of our male teachers has 3 duis! wtf! ms. prosek has one and shes blasted. i wish the reporter chic knew how motivating ms. prosek is. idk- she made a mistake but all this sh** is crazy. she still rocks!!!!!!!!
Carl September 29, 2011 at 11:28 PM
How nice of you, Tim.... Very intelligent statement
Michelle Williams September 29, 2011 at 11:34 PM
Wow. Over 200 Comments. FYI - Every one of you is contributing to the success of the Patch Network with each trolling comment. So if you really hate this reporter and this "newspaper" that much, let it go. Dawn is doing a great job. If I was a reporter and caught that someone arrested for a DUI was a teacher, you bet I'd pull it out and single them out. It's NEWS. You know, like a NEWSpaper.
Michelle Williams September 29, 2011 at 11:34 PM
And Tim, tell us what makes you so much better than Dawn. I'm waiting.
courtney September 30, 2011 at 12:58 AM
And Michelle, tell us, why haven't Dawn, Carl, or you responded as to why Dawn handled her inaccurate information changing episode in a manner that is inexcusable in the journalism field? I'm waiting and have been for about three days.
courtney September 30, 2011 at 01:01 AM
WOW! Thank you Hannah. I wonder if that tidbit of information will be looked into?
Cindy White September 30, 2011 at 02:48 AM
Yeah who needs soap operas anymore? I don't see anything wrong with what Dawn wrote; the responses have got carried away though. We all know how to have a good time it doesn’t matter if the “suspect” was driving or not she didn’t make the proper preparations prior to having a good time. I am glad to know about this since this “suspect” is teaching our children (doesn’t matter what subject). This is a good teaching moment, if you want to teach your child that we all make mistakes ( even the good teachers) there you go we make mistakes – pick yourself up and make improvements, if you want to teach your child hey this is what happens when you don’t think – there you go a perfect example. Why is everyone getting mad about the truth being reported. That is like saying we never needed to know anything about Drew Peterson or Casey Anthony prior to the court case.
Sam September 30, 2011 at 01:45 PM
Seriously people if you're upset about this article, and tarnishing this ladies career stop writing on here. All your doing is dragging this story on even longer, eventually people are going to forget, but not if you keep talking about it. If your upset about how Dawn handled something email her privately. Her email is right at the top of the page Dawn.Aulet@patch.com. This story has now been mentioned for a third time in a drug arrest article by Courtney, who seems to be supporting this gal, but why even bring the story up again?? You're just opening up another place on here to keep talking about her!!

Well, I was telling my husband about this article & he said he knew about it. Thanks for telling me honey! He knows a very good freind who was with Carrie that night. I do now know where they were, what they attended & what exactly happened. I won't disclose those facts, but the story reported doesn't match hers. Go figure! She does admit to drinking.
charlies angel October 01, 2011 at 01:20 AM
amend freind please! friend thank you
charlies angel October 01, 2011 at 01:26 AM
I got hooked on patch because of Dawn's journalism. The articles were interesting, kept my attention & was current before other papers. I am a fan of Dawn. Go Dawn!
courtney October 04, 2011 at 01:10 PM
i WAS a fan of Dawn until should wouldn't take responsibility for her actions as a journalist or even acknowledge the question. Booo dawn.
JimR October 18, 2011 at 09:16 PM
We called her Ms. OC back in my day before she was married...she was my gym teacher and my volleyball coach for a bunch of years. great teacher and had a great relationship with all her students. Obviously none of us can comment on the situation because we weren't there but if 200+ people commenting on what a great person she was doesn't sway the school board to think about how good of an asset she is then I don't know what will.
pat October 19, 2011 at 12:59 AM
Seems like everyone forgot this person was drunk and in a car with KEYS and at anytime something very bad could have happen. Because her picture was posted is what will make her think the next time she drinks and gets in a car .If the car was not parked the right way it got there some how. The fact of the matter is people do stupid things and get there picture in the paper . People seem to learn more when embarrassment is involved .I am very happy she is not a driver ed teacher. All of the parents should not be protecting her so much she teaches your kids she should be and the school should be very embarrassed. and her face should be seen. I am sorry the rest of the DUI`S are not posted with the picture right there. They have no problem in putting kids pictures in the paper why not the adults.
charlies angel October 19, 2011 at 02:22 PM
Law & rules are made for a reason. No excuses should be tolerated because of how popular or well liked you are. Bottom line , you're not suppose to be driving intoxicated. Emotions & feelings cannot be the judge of the crime. Like I said before, if your child was hit by this driver, how would you feel then?

Hey, Carl.... I know you're still popping in here to check on wifey's well being....how about asking her (for the 5th time) to answer why she never posted a REPORTERS ERROR?!!!
Bessie December 01, 2011 at 06:17 AM
Wow.. This was my cardio kickboxing teacher of two years... I just found out, and I do agree with many people that are saying its an invasion to her Privacy.. And who ever the journalist is... I think you should of talked to Ms. Prosek directly and asked her if it was okay to post a big picture revealing how she looks... Because when I started reading this.. I thought I knew the name, but when I saw the picture, it blew my mind that it was her. I love her and she inspires me to do my best. So I just think its sad that people are attacking her... She is an amazing woman and people DO make mistakes. NO ONE is perfect.
Francis February 05, 2012 at 01:44 PM
Coming in late on this story, it did say car was parked but did not say where. It is quite possbile this lady knew she could not drive and was just waiting it out. Perhaps she was waiting to be picked up or just sleeping it off. I think stories like this should only be published if the vehicle was actually being driven. This could possibly ruin her career. If we had proof she went from point A to point B while driving fine.
