Minooka Fire Leaves Seven Without Homes

Seven people were left homeless by a Friday night fire in Minooka.

Chief Al Yancy said firefighters were called to the 1800 block of Waters Edge Drive at about 10:35 p.m.

"The first arriving engine company found fire showing from the attic of a six-unit town home building and heavy smoke in multiple units," Yancy said in a written release.

Minooka Police Chief Justin Meyer said when police arrived on the scene, a top portion of the building building was burning.

"They saw smoke in air and flames from the residence," he said.

Yancy said the fire was mainly in the attic space and fire crews managed to stop the fire from spreading to adjacent units.

It took about one hour to bring the fire under control and a couple more hours to completely clear the scene, Yancy said in his release. No one was injured.

"Fire damage was held to the unit where the fire originated in; however water damage occurred in the adjacent unit and a third unit in the complex suffered smoke damage," the release said. "There was significant damage to the unit where the fire originated."

The cause of the fire is under investigation and an estimate for damage was not yet available.

Minooka was assisted by nine additional fire departments.
