Minooka Police Say Reported Abduction Attempt Was Misunderstanding

The man, who reportedly called to and ran after a student, said he was just going for a walk.

After reports of an attempted abduction Wednesday, the story of what really happened in  subdivision is still rather unclear.

But Chief Justin Meyer said it looks like a resident—one who was not well-known to neighbors—was simply out for a walk.

Residents in the subdivision were alerted Wednesday to an incident in which a student was reportedly approached by a man on foot who made some comments to her. When she ran for safety, he followed her, according to reports.

But Meyer said that was apparently not the case.

After stepping up patrols in the area Thursday morning, Minooka police found a man who matched the description of the person in question around 7 a.m. Thursday.

They spoke with the man, a Minooka resident who told police he was in the area Wednesday but never spoke with the student and did not chase after her either.

"He's a Minooka resident; he's got a family and kids," Meyer said.
