UPDATE: Motorcycle Accident Remains Under Investigation

No serious injuries reported following accident Wednesday night in front of the Pilot gas state on U.S. 6 in Channahon.

Christian Gonzalez, 23, of Channahon suffered minor injuries after his motorcyle ended up in a ditch following an accident that occured early Wednesday night in front of the Pilot Travel Centers gas station on U.S. 6 near the intersection of I-55.

The driver of a 1994 Ford Mustang also involved in the accident—19-year-old Shannon Dooley of Oglesby, Ill.—was not hurt in the mishap.

The accident occured at 5:12 p.m., according to Channahon patrol officer Brad Bucciarelli.

"From talking to witnesses—traffic was congested in that area at that time," Bucciarelli said. "Witnesses said the Ford Mustang pulled out of the Pilot gas staton and had to stop in the intersection due to the traffic.

"The motorcycle drove around in the center lane," Bucciarelli said. "The Mustang started to go forward and the motorcyle struck the Mustang."

Bucciarelli said Gonzalez's motorcycle ended up in the north ditch.

Channahon police and EMS teams responded, according to Bucciarelli. He said the roadway was shut down for a few minutes until debris was removed.

Bucciarelli said no tickets have been issued as of yet—he said the investigation is ongoing.

Bucciarelli said Gonzalez delivered a statement to Channahon police on Thursday morning. Bucciarelli planned to talk more with Gonzalez on Thursday afternoon.
