New York Man Nabbed in Channahon on Child Porn Charges

Sureth Manjanath accused of trading child porn in online chatrooms and traveling to the Chicago area to have sex with young children.

A Tarrytown, New York, man was arrested in Channahon this week on charges of disseminating child pornography, according to Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan's office.

Suresh Manjanath, 45, was arrested Wednesday following an undercover sting by the Attorney General's Office's High Tech Crimes Bureau.

According to Madigan's office, Manjanath traveled to Chicago to meet with an undercover investigator to distribute child porn and have sex with young children.

Madigan alleges that Manjanath was seen trading images of child pornography in an online chatroom. She said a subsequent investigation by an undercover investigator with her office culminated with Manjanath’s traveling to Chicago to distribute additional images and video of child pornography and pursue sex acts with underage children.

Channahon police and the Will County State's Attorney's Office assisted in the sting, according to Madigan.

Manjanath is being held at the Will County jail on $1 million bond. He is charged with four counts of dissemination of child pornography, a Class X felony punishable by six to 30 years  in prison if he's convicted.
