Route 6 to Close in November

Residents on the east side of the village will tell you that the situation with the railroad tracks on Route 6 at Youngs Road is bad. And they were glad to hear that Illinois Department of Transportation that the repairs would happen in 2011.

They may not be as pleased to know that those repairs are going to mean a detour in how they get out of their subdivisions.

Starting Nov. 7 and lasting to Nov. 12, Route 6 will be shut down at the Youngs Road railroad crossing.

For non-local traffic, the detour will be I-55 to I-80 to Larkin and the reverse.

"Locally, traffic should be able to use Route 6 up to the railroad crossing, the East Frontage Road of I-55 and McClintock Road to get in and out of the residential areas," Channahon Deputy Police Chief Jeff Wold said in a release.

During the construction, out of the gas station, Wold said in a phone interview.

"Channahon police will have officers stationed at the east side of 55 to make sure ," he said.

He added that IDOT told Channahon officials they will be posting signs advising trucks of the detour.

With residents of Leland Hills and McClintock Acres subdivisions using the northeast Frontage Road to exit the subdivision, police know traffic might increase there as well.

"We're just going to have an officer posted on the east side of 55," he said. "If the backup is at (Route) 6 and Frontage Road, that's where we'll have the officer stationed."

Construction will last a week, Monday to Saturday.

"Hopefully it's even sooner than five days," Wold said.
