Reports of Bear Spotted on Route 6 Prove False

A Facebook user reported seeing a bear along Route 6, but Channahon Police said residents have nothing to fear.

There is a rumor circulating around Channahon that a bear was found on Route 6. Channahon Police Sgt. Shane Casey dug to the bottom of the rumor on Tuesday night when Patch called to find out what was going on.

"It came from a Facebook post," he said.

I have been up for 24 hours and I just thought I saw a bear on the side of the road, wrote the Facebook user.

Casey said he was not sure of the exact wording of the post. However, he said the person must have been referring to a call for Channahon Police at 7:04 a.m. on Route 6 near Ridge Road, for a deer that had apparently been hit by a vehicle.

"There was no crash report completed," Casey said. "Either the vehicle was not there or the vehicle had minor damage."

Police officers euthanized the deer.
